Try to Keep Up
There was a long period of time when not much changed in the lighting industry. Those days are over. The two-year gap in meeting industry peers face to face, as a result of the pandemic, has lighting folks emerging from their remote office cocoons and eager to see new products – and each other – in person.
Now, how and where they want to meet is a bigger question. LightFair is the biggest commercial lighting show in the U.S., and typically draws the largest number of attendees; however, there are regional shows popping up all over the country that are generating attention. Yes, LEDucation in New York City has been around for nearly 20 years, but now we also have the new ArchLight Summit and LightSpec shows as well as the familiar IALD Enlighten conferences, the NECA and CEDIA shows, IES chapter product fairs, plus shows featuring specialized lighting categories. In short, there seem to be more events and less time to attend due to today’s fast-paced work environment. With rising airfares and increased fuel charges, the choice also becomes financial — especially for manufacturers.
What are your thoughts on the best way for you to see new products in person? Do you wait for reps to visit? Travel to a few local events? Or do you allocate time/expense to just one show per year to see the most new products in one fell swoop? Email me your opinion at lindalongo@uslightingtrends.com
