Tapping the Brakes
If there’s anything that can slow the breakneck pace of the housing sector, it’s the one-two punch of higher interest rates and rising inflation. While building won’t come to a screeching halt, it most likely means houses will stay on the market longer, bidding wars will be less common, and more potential homebuyers will hit the pause button. Conversely, the slowdown should provide builders and property developers some breathing room for completing past-deadline projects still clogging their pipelines.
In this climate, I was sad to learn that two long-time lighting manufacturers – Hallmark Lighting and Luminance Brands – filed Chapter 11 last week. Hallmark was a domestic manufacturer that had been around for 45 years, specializing in the hospitality arena. Luminance Brands was focused on the residential market and had struggled with an identity crisis in recent years.
LightFair will take place next week in Las Vegas and I look forward to hearing your thoughts on where the industry is going as well as viewing the latest product developments. Stop by the US Lighting Trends Booth #2277 and say hello! |
