Haulout madness – I’m stuck
When the stories rolled in for this issue, it wasn’t really a surprise that two of our columnists, Ask Andrew and Marc Robic, had haulout and winterizing on their mind. Interesting to note that their advice, in both cases, was really good and well organized. But it was also evident that there is more than one way to do this and undoubtedly, your methodology may differ here and there.
Neither of them addressed my problem (no snickering please) - mud. With the help of a towboat and a lot of tugging, the crew at my self-help club got the boat to the barge and signalled the crane to drop the slings. That’s when the serious trouble started.

Desolation Sound: the summer of Yes!
The bright summer sun forces its way through magnificent Arbutus trees as I dive off our pop-up-dock finding reprieve in the 80 degree F waters. Sharing the water with a friendly seal as brilliant star fish and oysters cling to the rocky shores of Roscoe Bay. Am I really in British Columbia?

Ask Andrew
Fall means haul-out and boat storage; I get a lot of questions about best-practices
Boaters tend to be hands-on and active. Many (most?) like to launch and trailer our boats on our own. We are hands on during launch and haul-out... But boat yards and launch ramps also tend to contain a collection of ‘this is what I do’, and not always ‘this is ideal, and I do it for this reason’.

Winterizing – Made Simple with Marc’s List
Last fall, a few members at my yacht club walked over and joined the exchange, which, by the way, is one of the great benefits and pleasures of being part of a yacht club or marina. It was clear that a variety of techniques are used to perform the same task.
