Adieu to Line Goyette
The essence of Canada's electrical industry is relationships and family. Today it is bittersweet for me to say adieu to Line Goyette, a writer and editor who has been with Kerrwil so many years, and someone who from the get-go understood how special our industry is, who respected its traditions and understood its roots.
Line brought a level of professionalism to our team, making sure the wall between advertising and editorial remained intact. She brought fun and challenged the status quo often, making us better all the way along.
She has been an integral part of our industry family, our company family, and my family. She has contributed greatly to this industry and to the success of Kerrwil through our transition from print to digital. She has nurtured and coached our team, and has made sure those who follow are well positioned for their collective careers in the electrical industry and in publishing.
The whole Kerrwil team here, and I hope I can also speak on behalf of those in the industry who know her, wish her nothing but the very best as her new chapter begins.
John Kerr, Publisher

A few words from Line
This is my last issue. It’s time for me to look toward new challenges. It has been an honour and a great pleasure to work with all of you for the past eight years and I hope that our paths will continue to cross. I would especially like to thank the members of the editorial board, who have always been available to answer my questions, make suggestions and help LDS stay relevant. I’m very happy to see a new generation at Kerrwil, my work family, taking over. John Kerr, publisher and president of Kerrwil, has been an incredible colleague and friend for almost 25 years. I thank him for his message. Good reading!

Case Study
Union Station
One of the finest examples of Beaux Arts and Neo-Classical architecture in Canada, Toronto's Union Station recently underwent a major revitalization. Lumenpulse luminaires were used to help preserve this important heritage building while also creating a highly memorable exterior lighting design. Toronto's Union Station is the second busiest transportation hub in the country. Opened in 1927, this landmark building was recently the subject of a multi-phase revitalization project. Architects, EVOQ, were responsible for the design and quality assurance of the interior and exterior restorations. CS Design worked closely with EVOQ, NORR, the City of Toronto and Parks Canada to create a lighting design that is perfectly synchronised with the Beaux Arts and Neo-Classical architecture of the station while remaining in contemplative dialogue with the more modern buildings in its surrounds. Learning from the Lighting Model of Sales to End Users
By Gene Biben
Having spent many years in the electrical industry as a 4th generation rep agency, my grandfather told everyone that my first words as an infant were “thank you, but we choose not to get into lighting.” Things have certainly changed, and the agency I grew up in is now in lighting and doing well. As we see, many supply reps are pursuing this part of our industry very successfully. In fact, since lighting makes up 25-30% of the market, it made senses to broaden the agency’s visibility into what our distributors sold. Read More |

Cybersecurity Assurance for IoT Lighting Systems
By Jared Morello
We live in a world of connected, intelligent devices referred to as the Internet of Things (IoT), and each year new products are brought online to solve modern-day challenges. Connected devices communicate to share information with other devices and systems within a network and are often implemented into the environments of companies in diverse sectors such as manufacturing, healthcare, education, and commercial offices. When equipped and installed correctly with a building’s large-scale automation system, IoT devices and systems help to warrant safe and secure facilities for occupants while reducing operational expenses (OPEX) by optimizing and automating many services, including lighting and HVAC controls.
