This issue has a green tint to it, we have some intersting insight from Adrian Thomas of Schneider Electric, a case study on a Rittal greenhouse project in Ontario, and an interview with Richard Chartrand on 3M's state of science index. We also have another whitepaper from Southwire and Mahammad Sadrzadeh on cable pull tension calculations. Along with those we have a number of articles from previous issues in case you missed them! BCEA is fundraising for flood relief to be donated to Canada Red Cross. One BCEA member has offered to match donations up to $20,000, the fundraiser runs until December 3rd. CAF-FCA is launching a national leadership development program for women in the skilled trades. EHRC is conducting a focus group to develop best practices for promoting an inclusive workplace. |

As part of Schneider Electric’s Innovation Summit held virtually on November 10th, Electrical Industry News Week was able to participate in a roundtable with Canadian President, Adrian Thomas. Schneider is a company involved in a number of different industries but the focus for this article is Thomas’ comments on topics relevant to the residential market, building codes, as well as on where Canada is at when it comes to climate change. Off the top Thomas explained that, “At Schneider Electric, we are often known as an electrical company, but actually, sustainability has been at the heart of what we do. We’ve been on this journey for the past 15 years. 3M Canada's Richard Chartrand on The State of Science Index

According to the State of Science Index – a research survey commissioned by 3M Canada that analyses global perceptions toward science - COVID-19 is considered a trigger point that has restored Canadians' faith in science. The results revealed that Canadians' skepticism of science has decreased to 22%, down from 29% before the epidemic, with 77% saying that they defend science when someone is questioning it. The campaign against COVID-19 has called the scientific community to the forefront. This year, as evidenced by the State of Science index, Richard Chartrand, Director, USAC Research and Development Operations and Canada Sustainability Leader at 3M Canada, recognizes how COVID-19 has made people more aware of science. Rates will be time-based and are expected to be approximately $0.26 per minute for 50 kilowatt stations and $0.54 per minute for 100 kilowatt stations.

New IESO Study on Gas Generation Phase-Out Provides Insights into the Future of Decarbonization in Ontario
With its low-emissions electricity system, Ontario’s economy is primed for decarbonization, even though it will be necessary to rely on existing gas generators for a number of years to support wide-scale emissions reductions. According to a study released today by the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), phasing out gas generation by 2030 would result in blackouts and hinder electrification, but could be considered given more time and planning.
