Just Ask John: Inflatable Personal Flotation Device (PFD) requirements
I have taken much of this information direct, with limited editions, from the Canadian Safe Boating Council’s website. Requirements come from Transport Canada’s Small Vessel Regulations. Inflatable Lifejackets (PFDs) have been designed for wearability. However, if you decide that an inflatable best suits your boating needs, it is important that you understand its limitations, how to use it and how to care for it.

Cool Your Jets
During one of the unexpected summer-like days we have recently down by the boat, my pal KB started talking to me about Ferrari jet skis. He assured me this was actually a thing and to my amazement, he was sooo right. When I returned home, I hopped online and sure enough, this is a latest toy for moneyed thrill seekers.

Written is partnership with KLK Yachts & Boats Canvas Tops
Deluxe Canvas Enclosure means Top Quality by design
A top-quality, deluxe enclosure begins at the initial stage of the project by ensuring we have the best achievable pattern for a given boat frame. For many reasons, we never use the old product as a pattern. In most cases, we observe that the existing (old canvas) did not have a proper pattern before the previous fabrication to start with. Often, we see numerous wrinkles or stretches, shrunk window material...

Bermuda: Canada Stumbles Late, US Tips Over
Spain got the better of two of the league’s heavyweights – Australia and New Zealand – in a tense three-boat final at the Apex Group Bermuda Sail Grand Prix to win its second SailGP event of Season 4. Canada could have been the giant killer but for an unfortunate fifth race but the US wasn’t close due to a capsize in warm up races the day before competition.

The Kids Are Alright (on Boats)
In preparing for this article, I bounced a few ideas around, from interviewing other parents to finding “experts” in childcare or sourcing the best products for childproofing, but then I remembered something I heard a lot when our son was born that, at first, sounded dismissive but in retrospect was sage wisdom: “You’ll figure it out yourself.” Instead of being a non-answer, what I now take that to mean is situations are as unique as individual personalities...

Engine fires and other scares
Boats aren’t inherently combustible. They aren’t firetraps, and they aren’t any more or less dangerous with respect to fire breaking out than an RV, trailer, car or airplane. But there are certain ingredients that make fires a potential hazard. Because of this, boaters should be aware of that potential, and take steps to minimize the chances of fire breaking out.
