Despite everything, I am relentlessly committed to taking a positive viewpoint on the shenanigans currently raining on our parade.
The May Two-Four Long Weekend was the universal start of the boating season in these parts. The unprecedented overuse of the word ‘unprecedented’ nonetheless describes our upcoming boating season, thanks to the bizarre break-up we are enduring on our southern border.
Reported everywhere indicate that Canadians have dramatically reduced their travel to the US leaving more time and resources for adventures at home. Everyone I speak with is planning their cruising on this side of the border and we have seen some sail racing organizations re-routing the course inside our waters. The good news is that this will be a great summer for Canadian boating destinations. Make your plans asap.

Canadian company ENVGO has announced that it will showcase its NV1 electric hydrofoil prototype at two events in Ontario this year. The NV1 prototype will appear at Charge Ahead, an electric vehicle and charging event in Bracebridge on May 31. It will also be showcased at Green Innovation Weekend in Orillia on July 26 and 27, along with an array of sustainable solutions and technologies.

Rideau Canal Opens its 100th anniversary as a National Historic Site
This year marks the Rideau Canal’s 194th season and it’s 100th anniversary as a National Historic Site of Canada. The Rideau opened for the 2025 boating season on Friday May 16 and will remain open until Thanksgiving weekend. The Rideau Canal was built between 1826 and 1832 and was designated a National Historic Site in 1925. In 2007 it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Juhasz top Canadian at the 2025 ILCA World Championships
James Juhasz from Oakville, ON, was the top Canadian at the 2025 Men’s ILCA 7 & Women’s ILCA 6 World Championships held May 12-17 in Qingdao, China. He came in 37th in ILCA 7 earnning the best Canadian result at the event since 2016. In ILCA 6, Clara Gravely was the best Canadian with a 41st-place finish, a personal best for her at that competition.
