Canada Qualifies Two Additional Spots in Sailing for Santiago 2023 PanAm Games
Canada has qualified two additional spots for the sailing events at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games to be held October 20 to November 5 in Santiago, Chile, following the reallocation of spots in 49erFX and Nacra 17 classes by PanAm Sailing. Because the last qualifying competition for these classes in Clearwater, FL, was cancelled early in February, Panam Sailing had to move forward with the procedure for the reallocation of unused quota spots, as outlined in the PanAm Sailing qualification criteria.

Race to Kingston Returns Aug 12
Last year Kingston Yacht Club and Mimico Cruising Club joined forces to co-host a new destination distance race, Race to Kingston. The response was excellent, and 37 boats took part. The new adventure will kick off on August 12, 2023, at Mimico Cruising Club. This year, 38 boats are already registered and 60 are anticipated. The concept of the race initially grew from GTA sailors looking to take boats to the Thousand Islands and has evolved into experience participants enjoy on its own. This year clubs from the south shore of Lake Ontario will also be invited to participate.

Harken 40 mm Zircon Blocks
Harken's 40 mm Zircon blocks are on the shelves and ready to be ordered. Zircon blocks are the most efficient small boat blocks Harken has ever made. At the core of Zircon performance are industrial ceramic ball bearings mounted inside caged races. The cages keep these bearings apart so they don’t bunch up, touch, and stop each other. The result is a very free-running block with less energy lost to friction than in even our current Carbo blocks. Give an unrigged Zircon block a strong spin, and it spins for an incredibly long time.

Seeing the Big Picture (Staying in the Game Upwind)
One of the major challenges of any upwind leg, is seeing the big picture and regardless of where you are in the fleet and making the right choices. At any given moment there’s a decision to make...are we doing the right thing...what are the options? Let’s explore that concept a bit and see if we can identify a handful of tips that can help us sail our best upwind leg. Let’s begin with a simple, obvious statement of priority: Clear air is always going to be number one. If you’re sailing at four knots and other boats are sailing at five, there’s no way to massage that discrepancy into anything very positive.

Canadian F18 Raid Championship 2023 Around the County Announced
County (near Belleville, ON) inspired by another event called the Archipelago RAID in Sweden www.stockholmarchipelagoraid.com. This event is a RAID which is a term from France which means a long distance event that starts in one place and ends in another. Another term that we use for it over here is an Adventure Race. In 2017 the International F18 sailing class association created the F18 RAID world championship. The F18 class is the largest class of catamaran in the world, and it is a formula class which means that any builder can build boats to the specification.

Crash-Proof Windex 6 for Dinghies and Cats
Dinghy and catamaran sailors are used to the occasional capsize—sometimes in spectacular fashion. Hitting the water at speed can cause run-of-the-mill wind indicators to bend, break or snap off. But not the Windex 6 Dinghy from Windex Development AB, the originator of the modern wind indicator. Engineered and built in Sweden to take on heavy seas, the Windex 6 Dinghy is so ruggedly built it's often seen on the bowsprits of larger boats. The flexible bracket of the Windex 6 Dinghy fits any mast or sprit 1.7" to 2.75" in dia. and secures using an elasticized cord with locking tab.
