Message From The Editor
But I haven’t had enough fun yet
From zero to 100, the boating season has suddenly gone into overdrive. This summer will be remembered as a sprint from heavy lockdown to an almost fully open bonanza of boats. Suddenly the pent up demand translated into busy docks, boats everywhere, regattas and races and crowds at cruising beaches.
It has all been a very ‘Canadian polite surge of activity. Most clubs and marinas have been cautious and the boaters have been respectful. People sit on the patio but at a distance. They step out of each other’s way on narrow docks. Sanitizer and direction arrows are still in play if not with the desperation we saw earlier in the pandemic. Guests are coming down to go out on the water and snacks are making the rounds almost like ‘normal’.

Romance onboard
|
The story begins with us!
On July 23 last year, CYOB published a piece on a beautifully restored 1967 Trojan 42 Motor Yacht in Oromocto NB. One of our Canadian Yachting contributors, Denise Miller, had shared the article on my social media and a young man reached out and asked if she could connect him with the owners of the boat, Dave and Barb.

Headsail UV Covers
Did I ever mention how much I like headsail furling? I’ve been club racing our 30’ cruising boat lately, and it has been easily the equal to two more crew members on board. When you are double handing with a now 14 year old, with a spinnaker (Asymmetric in a Sock)...

Corrosion – Part 1
It’s a scary thought – but whether your boat is made of wood, fiberglass, aluminum or composite – it’s slowly deteriorating under you. Part of this is the nature of the marine environment: Sun, moisture, waves, wind, movement and vibration all contribute to components breaking down.
