This issue features a couple interesting articles, the first an innovative project at the Vancouver Airport, we also take a look at future proofing in an article with MaxLite that originally appeared in one of our sister publications. Our third feature is from contributor David Gordon, who looks at the Q3 lighting market in his Pulse of Lighting series. Beyond that there is some interesting news happening, Lumileds files for Chapter 11, and Eglo wins another patent suit again Signify. Also of note is the Matter 1.0 standard has officially launched to promote interoperability with IoT. |

Lighting Design at Award-Winning Airport Pays Tribute to Province’s Logging History
Vancouver International Airport has been recognized by Skytrax™ as the Best Airport in North America for a record 12 years in a row. Indeed, one of the elements that contribute to its success is its carefully curated architecture, design, and artwork, which reflect the heritage and landscape of British Columbia. Its core theme, “Sense of Place,” draws on the motifs of land, sea, and sky throughout the terminals. Renovation of the airport’s international departure area, known as Pier D, stayed true to this theme. It introduced, among other things, an exterior atrium with live hemlock trees and a nature-inspired digital experience. Read More |

The pandemic demonstrated that we don’t know what the future will bring, but we’ve learned to adapt. The Connectivity Standards Alliance, the international community of more than 550 technology companies committed to open standards for the Internet of Things, announced today the release of the Matter 1.0 specification and the opening of the Matter certification program. Member companies who make up all facets of the IoT now have a complete program for bringing the next generation of interoperable products that work across brands and platforms to market with greater privacy, security, and simplicity for consumers. Lumileds Files Chapter 11, Plans to Reduce Debt by $1.3 Billion
San Jose, Calif.-based Lumileds Holding B.V., a leader in innovative lighting solutions, has entered into a restructuring support agreement (RSA) with its lenders holding a significant majority of the loans outstanding under its prepetition first lien debt facility on the terms of a comprehensive financial restructuring that would significantly de-leverage and strengthen its balance sheet by over $1.3 billion. One goal of this action is to accelerate Lumileds’ growth and enable further investment in innovation to pursue additional strategic opportunities through the injection of up to $275 million of liquidity. Eglo Wins Pantent Infringement Case Against Signify in Germany
Signify has lost its patent suit against Eglo, which marks the fourth attempt to get the company to sign on to its licencing program. The patent relates to a device for retro style LED bulbs. Signify announced it will appeal, prior to the announcement decision. Eglo is still facing nine patent suits from Signify in Texas. Read More |

The National Association of Innovative Lighting Distributors (NAILD) and the Lighting Controls Association (LCA) have announced a collaboration on a new podcast seeking to raise awareness and expertise in lighting controls. Produced every two weeks for audio listening on popular podcast apps or watching on a dedicated YouTube channel, The Lighting Controls Podcast is hosted by C. The Hidden Link Between Circadian Entropy and Mental Health Disorders
The high overlapping nature of various features across multiple mental health disorders suggests the existence of common psychopathology factor(s) (p-factors) that mediate similar phenotypic presentations across distinct but relatable disorders. In this perspective, we argue that circadian rhythm disruption (CRD) is a common underlying p-factor that bridges across mental health disorders within their age and sex contexts. Read More |
