The Future of Smart Home Technology
In this issue you’ll find an article from Le monde de l'électricité en ligne editor Elle Bremmer, who spoke with Schneider Electric’s David O’Reilly about his perspective on smart home technology and new product releases. We also have the answer to our latest Code Quiz question, 52% of respondents had the wrong answer, which is the first time wrong answers out weighed correct ones. We’ll release another question in the next issue. For electricians in Alberta, there is a new STANDATA bulletin clarifying rules from Section 4 – Conductors of the CE Code. The price of copper has hit its lowest point since March of 2021, falling 2.6% in July to $3.88/pound.

Passenger Ropeways and Similar Equipment
By William (Bill) Burr
Rule 58-600 requires grounding of each metal tower and metal station structure of passenger ropeways, passenger conveyors and material ropeways utilizing conductors installed following Rules 58-602 – 58-610. These conductors must not be used for bonding to ground of other non-current-carrying parts of electrical equipment, raceways, or enclosures. True or False?
Answer - True:
Rule 58-602 specifies that the grounding conductors for towers and stations be not less than No. 4 AWG. Remember to observe the bonding requirements for all non-current-carrying parts of electrical equipment, raceways, or enclosures to ensure proper bonding to the service equipment or system grounding conductor. Do not use the requirements of Rule 58-600 for bonding to ground purposes. Read More
