Underground Duct Bank Ampacity: Calculations & Considerations

Sometimes when designing electrical power systems, it is necessary to calculate underground cable’s ampacity. There are various methods being used recently including Code Books and Ampacity Tables, Neher McGrath Calculation method, IEEE835 method, Computer Programs and Simulators, etc. The most common and convenient method seems to be using Ampacity Tables. A technical designer can easily look up the related diagrams, tables and sizes of cable instead of using the actual Neher -McGrath Method with almost 20 equations that sometimes can be confusing. 2021 Ontario Electrical Safety Code (28th Edition)
The Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) would like to advise that the Minister of Government and Consumer Services has approved the regulatory amendment to adopt the 2021 Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC), which comes into effect on May 5, 2022. The new Code will be available for order in December 2021. The hardcopy of the Code book will be available for $223, as well as a PDF-version available for $199. Read More |

- ESA and ECRA Advisory Council Continue to Support World-Leading Electrical Injury Research and Patient Experience at Sunnybrook Ross Tilley Burn Centre
The Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) in alignment with the ECRA Advisory Council (AC) will once again donate $250,000 over the next five years to the Sunnybrook Ross Tilley Burn Centre, accelerating discovery and improving the quality of life for people with electrical burn injuries. Since 2006, ESA and ECRA AC have supported the Ross Tilley Burn Centre and continue to partner with patients to help share their stories of safety and recovery.

- CSA Group receives Certification Body accreditation from EMA
CSA Group recently received accreditation as a Certified Body (CB) from La Entidad Mexicana de Acreditación (EMA) and approval by Mexican regulators. As a CB, CSA Group can evaluate and certify certain products for the Mexican market that need to comply with Official Mexican Standards/Norma Oficial Mexicana (NOM) regulatory requirements for Energy Efficiency, High Tech, Power Supplies, Plumbing products, Home Appliances and Electric Tools.
- Siemens Energy is the First Manufacturer to Receive Certification from UV SUD for H2-Ready Power Plant Concept
Hydrogen can play a central role in the decarbonization of energy systems. In particular, natural gas-fired combined cycle power plants (CCPP) currently being built or planned are also expected to run partially or fully on hydrogen fuel in the future. This means that utilities that plan to purchase this type of power plant will expect a statement on the plant's ability to use hydrogen as a fuel.
