Message From The Editor
I went to LightFair in New York City this year knowing what to expect, considering the unusual circumstances. I was prepared for a quiet show – and it certainly was – but a pervasive feeling of happiness among exhibitors and attendees was noticeable as they saw industry peers face to face again and experienced a familiar sense of normalcy. While the 4Q show date (late October) reduced the expectation of seeing fresh products, attendees appreciated the exposure to smaller companies they might not have encountered at a super-large, super-busy LightFair due to time constraints. For others, it was an opportunity to touch and play with products they might have only seen in a catalog.
Inevitably, discussions on the exhibit floor revolved around the value and need for shows and the scope of them. Should they be giant exhibitions that fill a large convention center with enormous booths and take days to navigate, or smaller regional types of gatherings (some refer to them as “rep shows”) that are easily accessible, have a more concentrated focus, and provide more resources in less space. There are arguments to be made for both styles. Let me know which YOU prefer and why.
