Avoiding embarrassment is critical
What can we do to help our best customers avoid embarrassment? I think this is a subject that we don’t contemplate very often but recently, several things have come up that cause me to pause and think about our best customers.
The big factors are the sudden new capital gains taxes that the government has proposed, the out-of-control inflation in property values and the post COVID problems in our health care services. We all knew (or at least suspected) that our federal government was spending too much and that has resulted in the proposed new capital gains tax increases. Capital gains taxes are triggered when an asset (like a heritage family lakefront property) is sold or changes ownership. So, point one is to help the cottage families to keep their lakefront properties.

Toronto International Boat Show confirms a 9-day show in 2025
The Toronto Boat Show team has shared the results of the survey process to determine the number of Show days for 2025. As a reminder, in March a Post Show Survey was underway for Exhibitors. Show organizers received a very high response rate. Thank you to the 350+ exhibiting companies that participated. 90% of the boat and engine spaces responded.

Good news, you can choose! Distress Flare Disposal
Last week, Boating Industry Canada News Week Digest featured a last-minute story from CanBoat (formerly Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons) that funding had been cancelled for their Flare Collection Day program. With members across Canada volunteering their help at many locations, CanBoat had collected some 200,000 pyrotechnic distress signal flares over the past decade. CanBoat worked closely with CIL Explosives in Lachute QC to properly dispose of them at no cost to boaters.

Le Boat and Groupe Beneteau make waves with new 10-year partnership
The expanded relationship will see the two industry leaders launch a new model and boost Le Boat’s Boat Ownership Program. A new agreement between Le Boat and Groupe Beneteau under their Delphia brand in Poland will see Europe’s largest boat rental company invest over £100m into its international fleet over the next ten years.

Andy Thompson named Aluminum Boat Group President; Dirk Hyde to retire
Brunswick Corporation, on June 14th, 2024, has named Andy Thompson president of its Aluminum Boat Group division effective immediately. Thompson will oversee all commercial and operational aspects of the Aluminum Boat Group division, which includes brands Harris, Crestliner, Lund, Lowe, Thunder Jet and Princecraft. Thompson succeeds Dirk Hyde who will be retiring later this summer after more than 30 years with the company.
