Traditional wiring relying on cable connections that require loads of space is a thing of the past and busbar power distribution is now the industry standard for all industrial enclosures. Globally, companies are deploying busbar to power their modular enclosures, primarily due to safety. Busbar alleviates pain points in panel design, engineering, and operation via many factors, but each primarily hinges on the high level of customization and unique design capabilities compared to traditional wired panels. Section 64 — Renewable Energy Systems, Energy Production Systems, and Energy Storage Systems
By William (Bill) Burr
When installing an interactive inverter in a renewable energy system, why must the output of the interactive inverter be connected to the supply authority system as per Section 84?
Answer - B
When two systems are interconnected, hazards can exist if the primary utility transformer's overcurrent device can open for any reason. For example, if the interactive inverter in a renewable energy system is strong enough, it can back-feed the transformer, energizing the load side of the open primary overcurrent device. This situation can present a potentially deadly shock hazard to a person working on the primary overcurrent device or in the enclosure, which may think that all lines are de-energized. It is, therefore, necessary to connect as per Rules 84-004 and 84-008 of Section 84 to ensure that back-feeding does not create a shock hazard.
