CY & BIC Bonus Read!
It’s April again and boating season is at the forefront of “boaters” minds everywhere in Canada. I cannot wait to be on the water again. My family is looking to upgrade to a pocket-cruiser so the excitement is next-level as we discuss the possibilities of being able to trailer this hypothetical boat to new waterbodies all over. We are holding out for the “perfect for us” boat so hopefully it finds us soon but regardless of what happens we will be happy on the water in any boat.
My son is almost 11 and he is ready to start learning all aspects of boating. This summer he is going to get his boating licence, a.k.a. Pleasure Craft Operators Card. It just so happens that Canadian Power Squadrons has launched www.BoatLicenceCanada.ca and he will be taking their test online. You can read more about www.BoatLicenceCanada.ca in the article below.
Last year I shared the message below in the April issue of BEN and I am sharing it again, because I really believe that boating knowledge is power and is the key to the top priority in boating – FUN! Getting your boating licence is the first step, having fun is the next and learning is ongoing.
I want to challenge you with a few tough questions that I have been asking myself lately as my husband, son and I more often reach beyond our usual boating playground - be honest with yourself. Do you and the members of your boat crew know enough about the safety and navigational aspects of boating to relax and have a good time without worry? Also, does everyone have their PCOC Boating License? Do you understand the Basics of Boating and Navigation? I am personally giving our friends at Canadian Power Squadron a nod as the best course provider for Recreational Boating in Canada. They have been doing this far longer than anyone else out there. Get involved by taking courses and becoming a member. Make safety your top priority so that your time on the water can be carefree. One more thing – as you meet many new boaters who have embraced the lifestyle, feel free to pass this information along – you don’t know until you know.
Enjoy your Boating Equipment News for April, 2023.
