In this issue we have an interview with Mysa Co-Founder, Josh Green who discuss their product line and how the company got started. We have another interview courtesy of Powering Communities that looks at how K-Line Maintenance and Construction is supporting women in the trades. We also look at how a partnership between Schneider Electric and REV is impacting the industrial drives market in Western Canada. Discussing the Mysa Smart Thermostat with Co-Founder Joshua Green

In Canada, approximately one in three households use electric baseboards, with Quebec, BC, Newfoundland & Labrador, and Manitoba residents using primarily electric heating. However, Mysa Co-Founders Joshua and Zachary Green found there weren’t many smart thermostats for high voltage baseboard heating. “We were inspired by Nest and ecobee, who have great smart thermostats for low-voltage systems, but there were virtually no options for baseboard heating — that was the birth of Mysa,” said Green. Earlier this year Schneider Electric launched their Altivar Process ATV6000 medium voltage variable frequency drive (VFD) to the Canadian market. With that product launch, they also announced a partnership with REV to provide local customization as well as installation and support for the product. The College of the BC Building Trades has launched a one-stop shop to explore, start, build and advance careers in the lucrative B.C. construction sector. “We have more than a dozen training schools across the province, and now these brick and mortar facilities are coming together under one roof,” said Brynn Bourke, interim executive director of the BC Building Trades, which provides leadership to the College. |

New Legislation in Saskatchewan to Protect Contractors from Payment Delays
On March 1, 2022, The Builders' Lien (Prompt Payment) Amendment Act, 2019 will be proclaimed into force. "This government is committed to supporting the construction industry," Justice Minister and Attorney General Gordon Wyant said. "These changes will ensure the prompt payment of contractors and subcontractors and will enable parties to resolve issues quickly and without added costs - which in turn will help projects move forward without delays." |
