Everyone is talking electric. At the boat shows, there’s electric outboards big and small, electric cruisers, power catamarans equipped with solar panels, sloops with auxiliary electric engines that act as regenerators and all manner of electric toys like PWCs and wakeboards. No matter how much I know this is not going to be the case, I keep picturing boats with very long extension cords and colossal batteries.

Andy Adams inducted into the NMMA Canada Hall of Fame
On Tuesday, January 23rd during the Toronto International Boat Show, at the NMMA Canada Industry Breakfast, Andy Adams was inducted into the NMMA Canada Hall of Fame. Nominations had been open during the late fall 2023 and the submissions were discussed and evaluated. The NMMA Canada Board of Directors then voted and the award recipient was selected.

Sailor’s Day at the Toronto International Boat Show
Last Saturday (Jan 27) the 2024 Toronto International Boat Show marked the first year for Sailor’s Day at the Enercare Centre. The day was held in ‘Sailfest’, where many types of boats were on display including monohulls, Hobie’s, WASZPs, kitesurfing, windsurfing, wing foiling and more. There was apparel, gear, water toys and many booths lining the walls full of information of all things sailing. Reversing the trend. It has been noticeable that the sail footprint of the Toronto boat show has been reduced in the past several years.

Sail Nova Scotia Prepping for Sail GP
The countdown to the ROCKWOOL Canada Sail Grand Prix slated for Halifax on the weekend of 1-2 June is on, with four months until ten international teams descend on Halifax for the 11th event of Season 4. The season then finishes in San Francisco in July 2024. Sail Nova Scotia had the vision to bid for Canada’s first ever Sail Grand Prix; Halifax beat out three other cities to host the event in spring 2023.
