DEIR in Lighting
This issue looks at a couple outdoor lighting projects, as well as a new working group from DLC to tackle diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect in the lighting industry. The group brings in stakeholders from government agencies, academia, to manufacturers, design firms, and research institutions. The focus so far is promoting education pathways for underrepresented groups in the lighting industry. Also in this issue Liteline has launched a new certification program for their OnCloud product, Ledvance takes home an award haul, Eglo promotes Kim Quelch, and B.C. is investing in agritech.

Outdoor Lighting Project
Community Safety and a Nod to Festivals for Street Lighting on City's Main Thoroughfare
Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, in Quebec, Canada, has a vision for its municipality that embraces universal accessibility and active transportation. This includes sharing roads between pedestrians, cyclists and automobiles. When the city embarked on an infrastructure project to rebuild Montarville Street it also took the opportunity to add a 3-meter wide multipurpose path, widen the sidewalks, and convert street lighting to LED. DEIR in Lighting Working Group is Underway
“Lighting serves everyone. Southwire Canada Implements New Sustainable Lighting
In support of the company’s commitment to be a leader in corporate sustainability, Southwire Canada recently implemented light-emitting diode (LED) lighting at its Toronto Customer Service Center (CSC). The new lighting reduced the facility’s greenhouse gas emissions by more than 50%, which is the equivalent of removing 21 cars from the highway or saving nearly 120 acres of forest. First DALI-2 Certification of Self-Contained Emergency Devices
The DALI Alliance has certified the first DALI-2 LED driver for self-contained emergency lighting. Also, the company reports the first DALI-2 product to implement all 3 colour-control types, and the first DALI-2 phase-cut dimmer to implement the Part 205 specification. The DALI Alliance creates the DALI-2 tests required for certification, and provides independent verification of the test results.
