Staffing up for summer
Both the Globe & Mail and Bloomberg had editorial this past week, talking about the employment picture across Canada. While the expectations were for an increase of about 10,000 new jobs, in fact Canada added almost 22,000 jobs last month, more than double expectations. That followed a blockbuster increase in January of 150,000 jobs added.
In February, Canada’s unemployment rate held steady at 5.0 per cent while wage growth rose 5.4 per cent from the previous 4.5 per cent. The 5.0 per cent unemployment rate is close to an all-time low. Clearly, Canada is experiencing a continued tight labour market and that plays into the Bank of Canada’s concerns over a wage-price spiral.

Nimbus Group buys EdgeWater Boats for $9.5m
We have learned from our associates at BoatTest.com that in an agreement signed March 8th, 2023 Nimbus Group acquired all of the shares in EdgeWater Power Boats for a cash consideration of US$9.5m on a cash and debt-free basis, corresponding to approximately SEK 100m. The acquisition is financed with equity and the company intends to carry out a directed share issue of up to 1,937,781 shares.

Three years after acquiring, stabilising and growing East River Shipyard Ltd. into Atlantic Canada's largest full-service marine facility, veteran mariner and operations manager Captain Brad Boutilier has bought out retiring Gold River Marina Ltd. The Quebec Boat Show opens this weekend collocated with the Quebec City Outdoor, Hunting, Fishing and Camping Show taking over five halls at the Centre de Foires Expocite. The newly expanded 2023 essentially incorporates two shows to round out a full spectrum of outdoor hobbies. In the Boat Show section, there will be a full slate of manufacturers including Princecraft and Legend as well as a line-up of Quebec dealers.

Thousands attend BC Sportsmen’s Show 30th Anniversary Edition
