A sigh of relief
This weekend is haulout and while it’s always a sad moment when the boat comes out, it is with surprisingly upbeat log entries we mark the end of what turned out to be a more enjoyable summer than some of us expected. To be sure, the Summer of ‘21 has been an up and down experience thanks to this pandemic, which has brought with it a collection of restrictions and operating procedures, many of which proved to be a complete pain in the transom.
Still, the report from across the country is positive; cruising has happened with caution, the fair winds blew as we social distanced and the season was more predictable than you might have expected from our vantage last spring. There were some almost normal boat parties, some races, some dockside cocktails, and lots of family onboard.
Well done all with hopes for an equally enjoyable off-season.

2021 J105 Canadian Championships
Who says it never blows in Toronto? After sailing in very windy and wavy conditions on Friday and Saturday and champagne conditions on Sunday, certainly not I. Friday brought wind and waves that the fleet does not experience a lot and unfortunately contributed to a number of incidents and breakdowns.

Choosing the Right PFD
Finding the right PFD can seem like a daunting task and extends beyond finding one that fits and floats. After all, not all vests work for all people, and no one vest works well for all activities. Designs have become increasingly complex and specialized.
