Five Paid Sick Days For B.C. Workers Starting January 1st
Paid sick leave will be standard for workers in British Columbia beginning Jan. 1, 2022, with a minimum of five paid sick days each year. B.C. becomes the first province in Canada to legislate this level of paid time off for workers who fall ill. This new workplace protection applies to all workers covered by the Employment Standards Act, including part-time workers. |

- OSTA Welcomes More Support for Employers Who Train Apprentices
The Ontario Skilled Trades Alliance (OSTA), which represents companies that employ thousands of skilled trades workers, is pleased the Ontario government is making further investments to address the provincial skills gap. The funding announcement will help to tackle a number of critical pinch-points in the skilled trades system, including promotion, early skills development, the information gap and providing enhanced apprenticeship incentives.
- Ontario Investing $90 Million to Attract Young People to Skilled Trades Careers
Ontario is investing an additional $90 million over three years to further promote the skilled trades to young people. This investment responds to the Apprenticeship Youth Advisors report, released this month, which includes several recommendations to help solve the shortage of skilled workers Ontario is currently facing.

Residential Construction Investment Continues to Decrease in September
Investment in building construction declined 0.7% to $17.5 billion in September, continuing a downward trend that started in May. A decrease in the residential sector was partially offset by a small increase in the non-residential sector. On a constant dollar basis (2012=100), investment in building construction decreased 1.5% to $12.0 billion. Read More |

New Brunswick Sees Big Jump in Residential Sector in Building Permits for October
The total value of building permits increased 1.3% to $10.3 billion in October, led by gains in British Columbia (+15.0%) and Ontario (+4.5%). Construction intentions in the non-residential sector were up 4.2%, while the residential sector edged down 0.1%.
