Energy Stats: Hydroelectricity Generation Falls Amid Dry Conditions in August
In August, primary energy production decreased in two of the six subsectors, resulting in a 1.4% year-over-year decline. Coal production (-37.5%) and primary electricity generation (-15.1%) were responsible for the drop. Meanwhile, secondary energy production saw a year-over-year increase of 4.2% in August, mainly due to a 4.2% rise in refined petroleum products. Read More... |

Hydro-Québec Reports Net Income for the First Three Quarters Down $554M Due to Decrease in Out of Market Electricity Sales
Hydro-Québec posted net income of $3,050 million for the first nine months of 2023, a $554-million decrease compared to the historic $3,604 million recorded for the same period last year. This decrease is partly due to a decline in electricity sales in markets outside Québec as a result of lower-than-normal natural water inflows and to an increase in operational expenditure attributable mainly to growth in maintenance work to improve service quality and reliability. Ontario Increasing Funding for Indigenous Energy Support Programs
