Dockside Dining
When you are a boater, there are two primary interests: 1 boating 2 Eating and drinking. OK, that’s three, but you get my drift.
We already do a great job covering boating so now it’s time to expand to Item 2 – food and bev. Our goal is to locate the BEST dockside restaurants and pubs and reward them for their enthusiastic catering to the needs of hungry and thirsty crews. You are our reporters! (What is “dockside”? It could be a snack shack right on the pier or a walk/bike away. Even a short cab ride. The kind of place you head to right after you tie up).
It’s a big country but fortunately we have thousands of readers from coast to coast to coast and every one of them is both a boater and a consumer of food and drink. We’re all set!

Distress Flare Disposal Update
Regular readers of CB Onboard Digest know that we are concerned about the loss of options for boaters to dispose of their expired Distress Flares. Since those stories ran, we have received a few emails from companies who accept expired flares. For example, Steveston’s in BC has a spring flare return program. The Rigging Shoppe in Scarborough also had a collection day.

Ask Andrew
What’s in a survey?
I’ve found, in speaking with boaters the last few years, that a vessel survey is a misunderstood topic. Most of us hear “I need to get a survey” from fellow boaters, at the request of their insurance company. Many boaters wishing to buy or sell a boat will also request a survey. But, what is it? When you arrange to have a survey done, what are you buying? What qualifications does a surveyor have? What questions should you ask, or issues should you consider before arranging a survey?

The Advantage of Doing Boat Canvas and Upholstery Year-Round
There is no need to argue that the boating season in Southern Ontario is short, and every day of good weather during the boating season counts. In typical Ontario weather conditions, a boater has their boat hauled out for 7-8 months during the winter season, while they can only enjoy the boat on the water for a 5-6 month summer season.

Large Pull-Up Cleats
The aesthetics of large yachts and sportfish boats often come from clean sweeping lines. An uncluttered deck with hidden hardware adds to this effect. Engineered for just this purpose, 12″ and 15″ pull-up cleats from Accon Marine provide necessary mooring points for heavy vessels yet retract flush into the deck to maintain a modern and stylish appearance.
