Unintended Consequences of Light
This issue features the recent technical whitepaper from DLC that takes an interesting look at light pollution. The solution the technical paper proposes is non-white light LED light sources, while exploring what needs to be done to make the solution viable. We also speak to LightFair Executive Director, Dan Darby who gives a preview of what to expect from the upcoming Las Vegas show. This month there was some big news from Liteline, who announced a leadership transition. Daniel, Mark, and Sarah Silverstein have officially taken ownership of the company, each now serving as Co-President. |

Non-White Light Sources for Nighttime Environments
The lighting industry needs an integrated approach to solving the unintended negative consequences of light pollution on the natural environment. In response to this need, the DLC has published a whitepaper that seeks to describe the landscape for a small but promising part of the solution: non-white light (NWL) LED light sources. This whitepaper provides an overview of the state of the science and current recommendations for NWL light sources in outdoor lighting applications, as well as why the DLC is not addressing NWL LED luminaires in LUNA at this time. The last LightFair show was held in October 2021 after being postponed due to COVID complications, this year’s instalment marks its return to the west coast taking place in Las Vegas from June 19-23. Ottawa and Québec Provide $500,000 in Financial Assistance for Laval University to Support Greenhouse Growth Strategy
Marie-Claude Bibeau, federal Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, and André Lamontagne, Quebec Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, jointly announced financial assistance of $500,000 to fund a research project by the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Laval University on the efficient use of electricity for heating and lighting in greenhouses. The funding is being provided through the Quebec Agri-Food Innovation Partnership Program under the Canadian Agricultural Partnership. Read More |

The DLC now provides improved DLC product listing logos with simplified and distinctive designs that make it even easier to identify products that meet the DLC technical requirements. The new product listing logos utilize specific brand colors and icons combined with clear lettering, making them easy to differentiate from one another – even at reduced sizes as seen on manufacturer spec sheets.
