Message From The Editor
Business Drivers for Today and Tomorrow
I have heard it said many times that ‘The Future is Now’. In many ways, if we consider all the advances we have made just in the last 30 years, we are living a future that has come upon us faster than many thought. As we think about how fast the future comes upon us, I recommend you all read “Promoting the Electrical Industry as a Career Destination” by John Jefkins to ensure that the next generation, our future, are as enticed to enter the electrical market as so many of you were. And keep the future in mind as you read through other big moves and changes throughout the industry. Also pay close attention to a new section at the bottom titled “Product Watch” that will link to our sister site Electrical Industry News Week where you can stay up to date on the latest product releases from across Canada. Enjoy! |

Electro-Federation Canada - Industry Voice
Promoting the Electrical Industry as a Career Destination
By John Jefkins, VP Member Engagement & Corporate Partnerships, Electro-Federation Canada
The consistent message echoed from all corners of our industry is the need for talent. This need has been expressed by executives at EFC member engagement meetings and the EFC Human Resources Network. Most recently, Carol McGlogan, EFC President & CEO, shared in the January 27th edition of Canadian Electrical Wholesaler that “Talent has been consistently identified as one of the top two issues that keep industry executives awake at night. Of the 40,000 employees that EFC members employ, 10,000 are over the age of 55 and are on the road to retirement. There is a scramble to find new talent while also dealing with the challenge of a compressed time window for young leaders to develop to assume senior leadership positions.” Our industry is experiencing the tsunami of retirements, ensuring diversity, inclusion, attracting more women and young high-tech talent. Talent pipeline concerns are significant, spurring the need for creating appealing attraction and retention strategies. Read More. |

Sales Tactics
Using Incentives to Drive Business
By David Gordon
2021 was the perfect storm for sales growth … price increases and supply chain shortages coupled with the economic rebound. The question becomes, how to continue the ride? While both are expected to continue through the first half of the year, it’s important to continue to focus on driving growth from your customer. This growth should manifest itself in improved customer share of wallet, more units being sold to customers and increased market share. This is the same whether you are a distributor, a manufacturer, or a rep. There are a number of investment areas companies can make to achieve these goals. One concept is development of an incentive program to affect customer, or salesperson, behavior. Read More |
