The Wataynikaneyap project connects 17 First Nations to the provincial power grid, capital cost is estimated at $1.9 billion. The project is owned by 24 First Nations in partnership with Fortis Inc, as well as other private investors. The ownership model is unprecedented with First Nations controlling development on their land. In addition, Manitoba Hydro-Electric Board Chair Ben Graham said that Hal Turner, the utility’s current Vice-President of Asset Planning & Delivery, will act as interim president and CEO effective immediately. SaskPower Selects Proponent for New 100-megawatt Solar Facility Near Estevan
Following a comprehensive competition, SaskPower has selected Iyuhána Solar LP (Iyuhána Solar) to construct and operate Saskatchewan’s largest solar facility to date in the Estevan area. Ontario Supporting Plan to Refurbish Pickering Nuclear Generating Station
The Ontario government is supporting Ontario Power Generation’s (OPG) plan to proceed with the next steps toward refurbishing Pickering Nuclear Generating Station’s “B” units (units 5-8). SaskPower, Unifor Approve New CBA
A new collective bargaining agreement (CBA) has been reached between SaskPower and UNIFOR. The new CBA was ratified by Unifor and SaskPower on February 14, 2024 and is retroactive to January 1, 2023. On Jan. 31, Premier Danielle Smith and Colorado Governor Jared Polis signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to align regulation, enhance collaboration and increase information sharing on best practices in key energy and environmental areas including carbon capture, utilization and storage, methane emission reduction, hydrogen development and geothermal energy.
