Canadian Foiling Academy launched in Nova Scotia

Canadian Foiling Academy

June 27, 2022

Last month the Canadian Foiling Academy was launched at the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron.

“The RNSYS is the perfect home for our many foiling programs and this academy will be good for our club’s future,” says Vice Commodore, Lee Gifford-Simms. “Foiling is exciting and a great way to push your limits and learn new skills.”

There are two ways to sail, there’s traditional displacement sailing and then there’s foiling. The term foiling, refers to the use of hydrofoils that are attached to the hull and much like an airplane, allow the boat to lift out of the water once the boat gains speed.

The all ages Foiling Academy includes the following gear, but is not limited to, Nacra17 (Olympic class boat), WASZPS, Wing foiling boards, Nacra15 (youth worlds boat), ACat and more.

Sailors of all sizes and abilities can now try foiling in one of the Waszps the club has on hand. Last weekend they ran a very successful women’s clinic and in July are hosting a Waszp Regatta.

If you’re interested or want to attend a demo session get in touch with them here.
