Suzuki produces four million outboard motors

4 Million Suzuki Motors

Nov 8, 2022

Marine Industry News from the UK carried this story about Suzuki Marine. The accumulated global production figures for its outboard motors has reached four million, Suzuki has announced, 57 years after launching its very first outboard motor, the D55, in 1965.

Its mid to large horsepower models are manufactured at its Kosai Plant, Shizuoka, Japan, while its portable outboards are produced in Thailand. The four millionth outboard produced was the new DF350AMD model (which started production in October 2022).

“Since the start of production in 1965, Suzuki has strived to introduce new technologies, aimed to produce outboard motors marked by uniqueness, and this has led to the four million accumulated production,” says Toshihiro Suzuki, Suzuki’s president. “We are sincerely grateful to all the fans of Suzuki outboard motors. We will continue to provide marine products and services that are needed by the people and society, through our marine business activities.”

That ‘need’ by society can be evidence in the company’s microplastic collection device, which is going into production on new models. This forms part of Suzuki’s Clean Ocean Project, which Suzuki says shows its commitment to environmental conservation.

Suzuki GB recently partnered with INEOS Britannia to become the official supplier of outboard motors for its fleet of chase boats, which will support INEOS Britannia, the Challenger of Record for the 37th America’s Cup in 2024. The outboard of choice will be the dual-propeller DF325A model, with Suzuki providing the team with 12 units in total.
