A-LIGHT WINS TWO GOOD DESIGN® AWARDS

4 January 2023

A-Light (www.alights.com), an established best-in-class manufacturer of specification-grade interior lighting solutions, is pleased to announce its Absorb I and Relay luminaires have each won a GOOD DESIGN® Award from The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design.

Each year, The Chicago Athenaeum presents the GOOD DESIGN® Awards Program for the most innovative and cutting-edge industrial, product, and graphic designs produced worldwide. GOOD DESIGN® is an international symbol of a company’s commitment to innovation and superior design embodiment. This year marks the 75th anniversary of GOOD DESIGN®, making it the oldest and most prestigious global Awards Program. An international jury of distinguished design experts across multiple disciplines judges submissions. Absorb I and Relay were both recognized in the Lighting category.

Absorb I suspended luminaires feature distinctive vertical acoustic panels with an elegant, flanged design. Available in 24” to 48” lengths, fixtures can be discreetly connected in-line or with 90°, 120°, or custom corners hidden between felt layers. This allows designers to create seamless, unique configurations and closed patterns. The sculpted acoustic PET felt panels on Absorb I are available in 30 rich colors, enabling designers to make a vibrant statement. Beyond its refined aesthetics, Absorb I provides efficient architectural lighting, with direct and indirect illumination in a reduced-glare, slim profile.

With its fully illuminated, softened corners and dynamically inclined design, Relay is a pendant lighting system like no other. The highly reflective, thin parabolic reflectors run the fixture’s length and continue through the corners to provide soft glare-free illumination. Various indirect distribution types and continuous, direct illumination options may be selected. Designers can specify Relay profiles in varying lengths with either 90° or 120° rounded corners to create a multitude of curved geometric closed patterns. Fully recyclable PET felt acoustic panels can be added, in a choice of 30 colors, to complement or accentuate an environment’s aesthetic while absorbing ambient noise in a space.

Since their introductions, both luminaires have received multiple awards, including the 2021 LIT Lighting Design Awards, 2022 Red Dot Award for Lighting Design, 2022 IES Progress Report, 2022 Grands Prix du Design, and Product Innovation Awards from Architectural SSL Magazine.
