RANGER TUGS R-27

By Andy Adams
Ranger Tugs have been around since 1958 and they have developed a great formula: one boat, one price. Almost everything is included, and there is literally a fan club of owners who share stories, information and who set up events and rendezvous with other Ranger Tugs owners. www.Tugnuts.com is a community hub for owners of Ranger Tugs, Cutwater Boats and Solara Boats, all made by Fluid Motion!
Tugnuts.com is quite a unique resource. The online forum has quick links to a chat, info about cruises & gatherings, a channel to ask questions of the Ranger Tugs Factory, Ranger Tugs Technical Discussions, “How to” videos and more.

Sailing into the Future at Antigua Sailing Week

By Mathew Channer
“Standby tack,” Canadian sailor Katy Campbell orders. The crew scrambles over the sheet lines and braces on the deck.
“Three, two, one, tack!”
I wait until the bow turns into the wind and the headsail snaps over, then crawl over the cabin top of Panacea X to the now windward side. The trim team smoothly sheets on the headsail and a competitor vessel shoots past our stern, feet away, as our Solana 45 beats eastward along Antigua’s south coast.
Canada’s Hidden Fisheries

By Mathew Channer
As a resident of Georgian Bay, Ontario, I am enthralled by both the unique marine culture and beautiful environment of Canada’s Great Lakes. So, it was a great surprise to me when I stumbled across an unassuming YouTube movie, Last Boat on the Lake, directed by Dalhousie University professor Dr. Hannah Harrison, about a Great Lakes freshwater fishery. While I had assumed that some of the fish coveted by visitors to the region were local, I had no idea of the proud history and unique Canadian spirit of these small-fleet fisheries that operate from Ontario’s quaint lakeside ports. As it happened, I was learning about it during a critical time; the industry faces multiple threats and is at risk of disappearing entirely.

Ask Andrew: Hoses – Part 2

There are so many applications for hoses aboard, and each requires a specific type. There hoses for: fuel, exhaust, scuppers, engine water intake, potable water (hot and cold), waste, water heaters, bilge water, gear lube, and blowers.
The American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) sets standards for boating safety – if you’ve had a boat survey done recently, you may note that many of the recommended items are according to ABYC standards. ABYC has set standards on many of these hose types, in an effort to keep boats seaworthy, and boaters safe.

Interesting Product: New Bucket Lid

The humble plastic bucket may be the world’s most popular storage solution. But, if it’s accidentally knocked over its contents could fall out and get dirty or become lost. The solution is the new and improved Shurhold Bucket Lid.
The handy accessory works with most 3.5- and 5-gallon pails and allows contents to remain safely secured, whether boat cleaning supplies or ice and a six-pack.
