McLaughlin, John Felix – June 1, 1941- February 3, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of John McLaughlin at home on Mississippi Lake with family by his side. Due to his strong will and fighting spirit, we were blessed to have more time with him than his diagnosis would have predicted.

Survived by Jackie, his loving wife of 56 years, and their 5 children, Philip (Diane), Barbara (Geoff), John (Jane), Betty (Bruce), and Beverly. Cherished Papa to Emily, Evan, Matthew, Melissa, Mike, Ryan, Alyssa, Ava, and Andrew.

John was born on June 1, 1941 to the late Felix McLaughlin and Alice (Beaudette). He was the eldest of 8 children and is survived by siblings Patrick (Audrey Eastman), Margaret Flummerfelt (Peter), Terrence, Elaine Gariepy (Guy), Michael (Linda Thedford), Wally (Jan Saigal), and Ann Jackson (John).

With over 50 years in the boating industry, his success as a business owner was established while operating John’s Marina in partnership with Jackie. But where he really found his stride was in his “retirement” to Rideau Ferry Harbour. Here at his “Home Away From Home” he built an extended family to inspire with his work ethic and dedication. He was always happiest when he was helping someone. He put in countless hours to ensure smooth sailing for each and every boater. Despite this, he was never too busy to share a story, a drink or even a game of euchre. He will be deeply missed.

There are no public services planned at this time and any further memorial or celebration of life will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John to Carleton Place and District Memorial Hospital are appreciated.
