Government of Canada Invests in TDG Transit Design Group

The Governemnt of Canada has announced a FedDev Ontario investment of over $1.6 million for TDG Transit Design Group, a manufacturer and designer of made-in-Canada, energy-efficient LED lighting systems for the global rail transit industry.

Through this investment, TDG Transit Design Group will adopt new equipment at its newly expanded 10,000-square-foot facility to produce longer-lasting, weatherproof lighting technology and enter the aerospace, defence and security sectors. As a result, TDG Transit Design Group will be able to grow into global markets and help more businesses, organizations and transit operators reduce their energy consumption. In addition, they will create 22 highly skilled jobs across the region.

  • Established in 1989, Mississauga-based TDG Transit Design Group Inc. is a family-owned company that designs and manufactures LED lighting systems for the rail transit industry. The company supplies to global rail companies, such as Alstom, Siemens, and Hitachi, and employs more than 100 staff in Canada and more than 30 staff globally.
  • TDG’s interior and exterior lighting can be found in all major rail transit systems across Canada, including VIA Rail, GO Transit, Toronto’s TTC, Montreal’s STM, Vancouver’s Skytrain and Calgary and Edmonton’s LRT systems.
  • Since 2015, FedDev Ontario has invested over $140 million in 170 projects across the Mississauga census division, estimated to create and maintain over 14,000 jobs.
  • Since November 2015, the Government of Canada, through FedDev Ontario, has invested over $820 million in over 375 manufacturing projects, creating over 12,250 jobs and maintaining nearly 11,640 jobs.
