Make Your Voices Heard on Mandatory PFD Wear

NMMA Canada

Oct 8, 2024

Together, the NMMA Canada, the CMRA and Boating Industry Canada are reaching out to let you know about an important consultation from Transport Canada on potential regulations requiring the mandatory wearing of personal flotation devices (PFDs) and lifejackets for recreational boaters.

As a community, we understand the importance of safety on the water. However, it’s crucial that the boating industry’s voice is heard to ensure that any new regulations make sense for our boating culture and encourage compliance through education and targeted measures rather than blanket mandates. That’s why we need you to speak up!

We need your help making our voices heard—it will only take a minute!

CMRA

Transport Canada’s current survey does not offer options to express concerns or propose alternatives to mandatory lifejacket wear in all circumstances. To ensure our views are represented, we have made the submission process easy with our recommended position. Just visit www.boatingunited.ca  and follow the instructions. It will only take a couple of minutes of your time. Through this platform, you can share your thoughts on more effective solutions. We have pre-drafted a submission for you to use as well.

Once again, visit www.boatingunited.ca  and follow the instructions to submit your feedback to Transport Canada.

This consultation is only open for the month of October, so please don’t wait—make your voice heard today!

By participating in this consultation, you can help ensure that any new regulations reflect the reality of recreational boating and promote water safety in a way that encourages voluntary compliance and respects our boating community.

Thank you for your continued support and commitment to boating safety. Together, we can advocate for the best possible solutions for our industry and the enjoyment of Canada’s waterways.
