The Fast Track to Adoption
As much as I’d like that headline to be true, there really is no fast track to adoption when it comes to widespread use of lighting controls in commercial lighting. Those facilities managers and building operators who have implemented those systems – like the examples you see profiled in case studies – are often true believers, but there just aren’t enough of them — yet.
At last year’s Lightfair, the lighting controls category was probably the biggest trend of the show and I expect that to be even more so at Lightfair this month. Manufacturers have continued to expand their product offerings – and the capabilities are truly amazing – but we still have a long way to go before project managers and specifiers feel comfortable allocating the money for a comprehensive system. In anticipation, some manufacturers have begun “future-proofing” their fixtures so that customers can easily add control capability at a later date. I think that that is an excellent solution for the time being, but hope that we don’t have to wait too long for customers to embrace the future. |
