Power On
California and New Jersey (where I live) are requiring all new cars to be electric as of 2035 — a mere 12 years from now. Naturally, other energy-conscious states will follow suit. With electric vehicle (EV) sales on the rise, installing EV charging stations in the parking lots of office complexes, car dealerships, and shopping centers as well as single- and multi-family homes could create a revenue stream for our industry.
In addition, there will be more opportunities for lighting and energy companies to enter the energy monitoring arena. For example, power management company Schneider Electric recently debuted Schneider Home, an app that manages everything from solar and backup batteries to EV chargers and grid power. Through the Schneider Home app, users will be able to see exactly how much energy their connected devices are consuming (including clothes dryers, TVs, and whatever is plugged into a smart outlet) and alter that usage in real-time.
Regardless of whether you are involved in the commercial or residential side of the lighting business, you will undoubtedly notice an increase in customers requesting energy monitoring capabilities as well as EV charging. As a result, our coverage will be following developments and opportunities in this market. Stay tuned. |
