Chambly Canal Reopened After Emergency Closure
the Chambly Canal in Quebec has reopened to navigation as of September 4. Following unauthorized work carried out on a parcel of land adjacent to the Chambly Canal National Historic Site causing concerning damage to the integrity of the installations, Parks Canada has lowered the water level between Locks No. 8 and 9 as a precautionary measure.

The Ice Cream Dock
Michael Alton built this floating ice-cream shack in his New Brunswick driveway last winter out of mostly recycled materials. He then craned it into the water for the big opening. Everything on board the shack is run by solar and battery power. “I wanted to make it look like, you know, like a baseball … snack shack when you were a kid, you know, where you’d go to get a freezie or ice cream at the game,” said Alton.

Trimming – it’s just plane sense. Part 2: Trim Tabs
Last time, we looked at outboard and stern drive tweaking to get the boat planing. Further to that we consider trim tabs as an additional means. The larger the boat, the more difficult it becomes to raise/lower the outboard or sterndrive on its own. The race started at 1015 on Saturday morning with a forecast of light winds, occasional storms and a slow run. What happened was the wind built in from the South and from reports from various competitors, held steady at 15-20 knots – all from the south. Although there was rain ashore, most crews were dry until they got to Kingston. Morning rain there, then it dried out for the balance of Sunday.
