Message From The Editor
It’s My Duty (with Help from Tony)
This is the time when, as your editor, I am tasked with summing up the past year in boats and looking ahead to the next.
But it’s a difficult assignment. Assessing up the past year is complex. There was good - mostly personal stuff that made boating worthwhile. Not much really bad, happened (no pandemic, for example) but the weather, at least here, was kind of baffling. Perhaps that’s what we get in these parts – I feel like we repeat that every year.
We had an on-going stream of individual and group happenings from all you powerboaters and sailors, which we detailed in our 24 issues.

Eight Bells
Nick Genco
For boaters in Toronto, there was once the luxury of choice for boat parts and supplies. Davidsons on King Street, the legendary Tom Taylor on Adelaide, a couple on Pier 4, the Dock Shoppe in a mystery building on Queen’s Quay. Holland Marine on Dundas next to the pizza place. And of course, Genco

Andrew’s Poem for your Batteries (Could They Light Rudolph’s Nose?)
‘‘Twas the night before Christmas and all ‘cross the land
Boats were left to slumber, exactly as planned.
Engines were winterized and tarps were tied tight
But batteries – and what to do – give many a fright.
Disconnect or remove, which shall it be?
An expensive replacement for under the tree!

Connecting All Boats to the Future – Old and New
Without a doubt, the fastest moving sector of the marine industry is electronics and all the operational and navigation systems that encompasses. I recently attended the NMEA (National Marine Electronics Association) Annual Conference and Expo for marine electronics professionals in Providence, Rhode Island and learned a host of amazing things. The biggest news is something that wasn’t even being talked about two years ago. It’s called Starlink, part of SpaceX and Elon Musk’s amazing new ventures.
