Edge Computing
This issue features a guest contribution from Schneider Electric's Secure Power Canada VP. Jim Kalogiros where he looks at how edge computing can be leveraged in the energy transition. We also have a colourful lighting case study from Kelowna. ESA reported an unlicensed electrician in Hamilton was fined for unsafe work, highlighting the importance of hiring licensed electricians. Also in Ontario, the province is funding three mobile training classrooms to be deployed by Skills Ontario, in their continued effort to boost enrollment in skilled trades through investment. |

Littelfuse Whitepaper: Variable-Frequency Drives Create a Blind Spot to Low-Level Earth Faults in High-Resistance Grounded Systems
Death and injuries make earth faults one of the most essential hazards to mitigate. High-resistance grounding provides significant protection for equipment and personnel. Unfortunately, when variable frequency drives (VFDs) are used in resistance-grounded systems, the system may not be able to effectively detect low-level ground faults unless the equipment is adjusted accordingly. In this paper, Littelfuse explains why using VFDs in high-resistance grounding systems can be problematic and provides an in-depth discussion of how those problems can be overcome. Get the Paper |
