- Hydro One and Peak Power Launch Innovative New Pilot Program to Enhance Power Resiliency Using Electric Vehicle Chargers
Hydro One and Peak Power launched a new pilot program to study the benefits of using electric vehicle (EV) charging technology to improve power resiliency and reliability for customers. Two-way Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) charging technology will be installed at the homes of program participants to test the ability of EVs to act as batteries and provide back-up electricity through simulated power outages. This technology has the potential to support the shift to electrification and a low-carbon economy for customers in Ontario. As part of building a grid for the future, the innovative pilot program will study how this technology can improve the reliability of Hydro One's distribution system.
- Canada Invests in a New Global Initiative for Transitioning Remote Communities to Renewable Energy
Access to reliable, clean and affordable energy is a global challenge. Many communities throughout the world reside in isolated areas too distant or too difficult to connect to traditional energy grids. A large number of these remote communities rely on diesel fuel for heat and power, polluting the air in those communities and releasing greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. That is why the Government of Canada is investing in projects to help remote communities transition away from diesel and toward clean forms of energy.
- Electricity Demand Growth on the Rise in Québec
In the progress report on the Electricity Supply Plan 2020–2029 (in French only) that it filed with the Régie de l'énergie, Hydro-Québec announced that it anticipates an increase of 20 terawatthours (TWh) or 12% in the province's electricity demand over the 2019–2020 period.
